Chelation Therapy

What is Chelation Therapy?

Chelation therapy treats heavy metal poisoning by removing toxins from the body. This process involves introducing chelators, such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Chelators bind to metals and minerals in the bloodstream. Then, they form a compound excreted through urination. Chelation means to claw or grab hold – in this case, of toxins. Historically, chelation therapy has been done intravenously with EDTA. Still, other types of chelators, both oral and intravenous, have also been used. Schneck Integrative Medicine participated in the National Institute of Health’s TACT trial. The trial studied chelation therapy for those with heart disease. Chelation therapy was found to be especially helpful for patients with both heart disease and diabetes.

Unfortunately, many of us now carry significant amounts of heavy metals. Some of these metals include arsenic, mercury, lead, and cadmium. The metals are present because of environmental exposure to air, water, and food. Metals and other toxins, like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and plastics, are increasingly present in our bodies. Chelation therapy helps remove these toxins. However, a multi-step approach is necessary to support the body’s detoxification process and prevent further exposure. At Schneck Integrative Medicine, we strive to balance safe detoxification with managing the growing toxin load in our environment.

Our experienced healthcare professionals ensure personalized care for heavy metal poisoning through chelation therapy. This treatment is critical for managing and removing toxic metal accumulations in the body, which can be introduced through contaminated water, air, and food. If you suspect heavy metal exposure, seeking care from medical professionals is essential. Talk to your doctor about the next steps to achieve optimal health outcomes.
