Abscess Incision and Drainage
An abscess is a pocket of pus that can be found anywhere on the body. A primary care doctor at Schneck will make an incision in the abscess, drain out the pus, and clean the area. In most cases, the area around the abscess will be numbed before the procedure. But in some cases where the abscess is larger, general anesthesia will be administered.
After the treatment, the patient will have a dressing over the wound that a nurse needs to change every day. The patient will need to return to Schneck for this treatment every day until the wound starts to heal.
The primary care team at Schneck has the expertise to handle an abscess. By assessing the area, we can determine the proper care the patient will need and can drain the abscess without complications.
