The Importance of Primary Care

We covered several crucial reasons in our blog to help you understand how enriching a primary care provider can be for your overall health.

Step 1 - Assess Your Needs
Consider the health needs you or your family currently have. Are you wanting to establish a relationship with a primary care provider at Schneck for regular checkups? Perhaps you're nearing an age where recommended health screenings should be undertaken. If you want to take control of your health and be proactive, then a primary care provider at Schneck is likely right for you.
Step 2 - Consider the Patient's Age
There are three types of primary care providers at Schneck that treat patients at a variety of life stages. Pediatricians typically treat patients between the ages of infancy to age 21. Family Medicine providers treat patients through all life stages from newborn to elderly. Internal Medicine providers treat medically complicated adults and children. Consider the age of you or your loved one before making a decision.
Step 3 - Schedule an Appointment
It's important that your primary care provider be accessible and near where you live so they can provide timely care. If you're located in Indiana, Scheck is the ideal primary care provider for you and your family. Give us a call and we'll connect you with an available primary care provider.

Primary care providers are responsible for your entire wellness. They are focused on every aspect of your health and how various diseases can affect your body. Specialists focus exclusively on the organ area they specialize in. For example, a cardiologist is focused on your heart health. Knowing that primary care providers treat your overall wellbeing can help you decide if your health concerns are better treated by them or a specialist.
The three types of primary care providers and who they treat are:
- Pediatricians - Treat patients ranging from birth to age 21
- Family Medicine - Treat patients from infancy to elderly life stages
- Internal Medicine - Treat medically complicated adults and children
Contrary to popular belief, primary care providers treat very complex cases alongside less severe ones. In some cases, primary care physicians may call on the help of internal medicine physicians and other specialists to ensure the best treatment for their patients.
