Schneck nurses were recently honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses and Schneck non-nursing team members with the BEE Award. The awards recognize the extraordinary, compassionate care provided to patients and families every day at Schneck.
Staff, families, and patients submitted numerous stories speaking to the excellent care provided at Schneck. From these submissions, the DAISY and BEE committees reviewed the blinded nominations to determine nine award recipients.
The DAISY Award recipients are: Michelle McCool, endoscopy; Denise Shoemaker, surgery; Donna Foster, Schneck Hospitalist group; and, Kandi Bollinger, pre-operative services.
The Daisy Leadership Award was presented to Rachel Stangland, operating room and clinical education manager.
The BEE Award recipients are: Gina Gardner, pre-operative services; Misty Ruddick, Schneck Integrative Medicine; Jean Feller, environmental services; and, Bailey Bonebright, patient services.
“Our nurses and non-nursing team members are heroes every day,” said Amy Pettit, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, Schneck Medical Center. “It’s important that our team members know their work is highly valued, and the DAISY and BEE awards provide a way for us to recognize their efforts.”
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
About the BEE Award
The BEE (Be Extraordinary Every Day) Award was developed at Schneck Medical Center to honor and recognize the care team that supports nursing staff and works closely with them to provide patients and families with the compassion and care they need.
