Where did you grow up?
I grew up near a small rural town in southwest Indiana called Shoals. I am the fifth of eight children and my parents have a cattle farm. My childhood was filled with all the activities of farm life.
Please tell us about your family.
I met my husband while in college and we married a few short months before moving to West Virginia for medical school. Family has always been very important to me and we had our first of four children while I was in medical school. We recently moved back to my husband's hometown of Scottsburg and are enjoying beginning our own small hobby farm.
What hobbies do you enjoy?
I enjoy almost everything outdoors, gardening, hiking, and home improvement projects, as well as traveling.
When did you know you wanted to be a physician?
My first memory of wanting to be a doctor was at around seven years old while picking berries in the blackberry patch. My mother was a nurse and both my parents were very supportive of my choice and endeavor. I began my career in nursing and was able to gain skills while taking my premed courses.
What do you like most about practicing medicine?
My favorite part of practicing medicine is learning about my patients’ lives and finding ways to improve their quality of life. As an advocate for wellness, I love being a sleep specialist and helping patients improve their sleep, sometimes with miraculous results.
What attracted you to work at Schneck?
I am so blessed to have found Schneck Medical Center. They are a thriving hospital with a focus on providing quality care to all they serve. I am so glad to be working at a locally-based hospital that is successful and prospering and I look forward to expanding the specialties offered to our patients.
