What is a Favorite Memory From Your Medical Training?

I had a lot of good memories throughout medical school and residency, but I don’t think I have ever felt happier than when I found out that I matched with the Fort Wayne Medical Education program to complete my residency, the same program with which I had done most of my third and fourth years of medical school. One of the most satisfying patient encounters was when I first did an osteopathic manipulation on a patient with real dysfunction, as we were used to practicing on our younger, predominately healthy classmates, and you could see from five feet away that the patient’s hip was now in proper position, when it was very misaligned previously.

"When I first set foot inside Schneck Medical Center, I was immediately impressed with how clean, well-kept, and put-together the facility was. From the reviews I read, and from what I was able to see first-hand, it was apparent that Schneck was growth-oriented and was there to help their employees to continuously improve, thereby allowing for better healthcare for the patients."

What do You Like Most About Practicing Medicine?

The thing I like most about practicing medicine is being able to make a real positive impact on the quality of life of my patients, and to help them to live longer, healthier, lives. It brings me a deep sense of happiness and gratification when my patients report back positive results, or when I can see the results firsthand.

What is Your Most Memorable Patient Story?

I had a young adolescent male who had been wheezing for about a week, after an incident in which he was chewing on a straw and somebody startled him by throwing a basketball to him. He initially went to the ED, but nothing was found. When I saw him in the office a week later, I ordered a STAT CT of his chest, which revealed the straw was stuck in his carina; the patient was sent to the hospital and the straw was successfully removed with a bronchoscope, allowing him to breathe easier.

What Attracted You to Work at Schneck Medical Center?

I interviewed at several hospital systems. I read lots of reviews on GlassDoor. When I first set foot inside Schneck Medical Center, I was immediately impressed with how clean, well-kept, and put-together the facility was. From the reviews I read, and from what I was able to see first-hand, it was apparent that Schneck was growth-oriented and was there to help their employees to continuously improve, thereby allowing for better healthcare for the patients. Starting from the top, the positive culture is apparent, and helps to explain why they’ve won as many awards as they have. Of all the hospital systems I’ve looked into, Schneck is the one which most seems to have their stuff together.
