| News

Schneck Medical Center (“Schneck”) is committed to its patients, their treatment and their families – as well as to protecting the privacy and security of their personal information. On September 29, 2021, Schneck learned that it was the victim of a cyberattack that caused encryption of certain files stored on its network. In addition to encrypting files, an unauthorized party removed a limited number of files from its system. Upon learning of the issue, Schneck commenced an immediate and thorough investigation and alerted law enforcement.

As part of its investigation, Schneck engaged leading third-party experts experienced in handling these types of incidents. The investigation worked to identify what information, if any, might have been present in the removed files. At this time, Schneck’s investigation into the incident and what specific information was impacted is ongoing.

While we have no indication that there has been any fraud as a result of this incident, Schneck reminds its patients to remain vigilant in reviewing financial account statements on a regular basis for any fraudulent activity. Schneck also recommends that its patients review the explanation of benefits statements that they receive from their health insurance providers and follow up on any items not recognized.

As a team of dedicated and caring medical professionals, we understand that healthcare is about people taking care of people. Schneck remains fully committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information in its possession and has taken many precautions to safeguard it. Schneck continually evaluates and modifies its practices to enhance the security and privacy of personal information.
