Schneck Anesthesia Welcomes Tucker Brush, MD
Where Did You Grow Up?
I grew up in Hidden Valley Lake in southeastern Indiana, a small lake community outside of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Throughout high school, I played on club and high school soccer and swim teams. I was a lifeguard at the lake and pool in our community and a referee for youth soccer. I was involved as a leader in my church youth group and participated in yearly mission trips. In college, I continued playing intramural soccer throughout college and medical school and also volunteered at the local animal shelter and free medical clinics for the underserved in Vigo County.
Please Tell Us about Your Family.
My family is my favorite thing to talk about! I met my wonderful wife in medical school. She is a psychiatrist and we have joined the Schneck medical staff together! My mom is a pediatric physical therapist and provides home-based services for children in underserved counties in southeastern Indiana. I’m the oldest in my family and have two brothers and a sister. One brother is a dentist for the Air Force, the other an airline pilot, and my sister is a high school English teacher.
Where Would You Most Like to Visit?
Any weekend spent on my mom’s pontoon boat back in Hidden Valley is a weekend well spent, especially when siblings and friends are able to join. I enjoy spending time with family more than most anything else.
What Hobbies do You Enjoy?
I’m a huge dog lover! I’m happy to say I turned my wife from a cat person to a dog person. We have two cockapoos—in addition to a couple cats—that we love to take with us to explore the area. I’m always willing and more than happy to share pictures! We are lake people and love any activities on the water including boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming. I continue to enjoy watching and playing soccer and when I’m not being active, I’m usually listening to audiobooks recommended by my brother.
When Did You Know You Wanted to be a Physician?
Since I can remember, I have wanted to be a doctor. Having the ability to help and serve others in their times of need always seemed like a pretty cool job. Besides the exposure to the medical field that I had at home, I participated in mission trips in high school that made me aware of the lack of medical care available to people in rural areas—even in Indiana! This motivated me to become part of Indiana State’s Rural Health Scholars Program; a program geared towards ensuring rural Indiana has access to quality medical providers. My interest was reinforced through my volunteer work at medical clinics while at ISU and a medical mission trip to villages along the Amazon River in Peru.
"I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to receive high quality health care, wherever they live and Schneck is consistently evolving to meet the needs of its population so that happens."
Why Did You Choose Anesthesiology?
Anesthesiology is where procedural and pharmaceutical medicine come together and it's the best of both worlds. The ability to reassure patients during one of the biggest days of their life is a blessing.
What Attracted You to Work at Schneck Medical Center?
My wife and I both have an interest in living and working in a rural area. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to receive high quality health care, wherever they live and Schneck is consistently evolving to meet the needs of its population so that happens.
