Laboratory Services

The Laboratory at Schneck Medical Center is committed to accuracy and providing efficient test results for its patients.  The Lab includes a new Outpatient Draw Station located inside the new Patient Entrance just off of Brown Street.

Saturday: 7 a.m. - noon

Satellite Blood Drawing Stations

Blood work is done in Brownstown at the Jackson Co. EMS building on Wednesdays from 8:00 am – noon.  For more information about the Satellite Stations, please call 812.523.4758.

 

Reference Lab

Mayo Medical Laboratories is the diagnostic reference laboratory for Mayo Clinic. We specialize in esoteric laboratory testing for health care organizations throughout the United States and around the world. Our mission is to support the local delivery of laboratory services by providing exceptional reference testing and support services which facilitate and augment community integration efforts.

Same Day Reporting for Routine Test Orders

Results for chemistry profiles, blood counts, and other routine testing will be provided to your physician on the same day the blood is collected.  Reports will be provided by Forward Advantage, an automated fax system, or by courier delivery to your physician’s office.

 

Patient Instructions

When you come for your lab test, be sure to bring your lab order form that your physician gave you as well as your insurance     card(s).  If you are having a drug screen, you will also need a photo ID.

 

Fasting

The laboratory defines fasting as no food or drink for 8 to 12 hours before the blood is drawn.  Patients should still take their  prescribed medication and small amounts of water, unless your physician has told you otherwise.  Candy, gum, mints, and coffee are considered food.

Some common tests that require fasting include:

  • Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP) 
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
  • Glucose
  • Glucose Tolerance Test
  • Lipid Panel

 

HIV Testing

If you are having an HIV test, you will be asked to sign a consent form that verifies that your doctor has explained the test to you.  We cannot provide HIV testing without a signed consent.
